  • @Kramerdower Well, the 2008 pens were decimated by injuries :S

  • Another year another bottom feeding Toronto team, but hey I bet it was exciting!

  • I never knew that the 2000 Devils controlled the way the other 29 NHL teams play. Stop using excuses, the 2001 Devils scored 50 more goals than the 2008 Penguins. What is your point?

  • @ISteppedOnATurd the NHL needs the casual fans to buy tickets and support local teams, otherwise they go bankrupt. There arent 20000 real hockey fans in Arizona that are willing to buy tickets every game.

  • I really don't care about "casual fans", the type that show up to watch the cheerleaders and giggle when they see ten goals scored. Real fans aren't attracted to easy goal scoring, fans get pulled in when they see a really gripping game, with lots of big hits and saves. Sure, there are the monkeys that just say "Score already". But they aren't real fans and probably will never be. The fact is that most high scoring blowouts are boring, and anybody with a real interest in the game can see that.

  • the casual hockey fan probably prefers to see a 5-4 game to a 1-0 no matter how good it is. The NHL needs to attract the casual viewer, you and I can appreciate a good 1-0 game but casual fans don't.

Its like soccer to a lot of North Americans.

  • It's not the trap that caused the lack of scoring, it's the lax penalty calling that did. Players were allowed to clutch, grab, hook, and just totally tie up players in the slot and on the rush so goal scoring went down. The trap is an effective defensive system, but the different penalty rules were more to blame.

That said, scoring =/= better hockey. A competitive 0-0 goalie/defense battle, like the Devils/Rangers game this week, is loads more exciting than a 7-2 blowout.

  • There was a lot of scorring in the 80's and early 90's and became very popular in the US. Then the trap showed up in the late 90's scoring went down and hockey's popularity went down. Coincidence, I dont think so.

  • NJ wasn't the first to trap. The trap was invented by the dynasty Montreal teams from the 70s. The Devils just brought it back and used it effectively. It's not like they were cheating - any team could do it, just nobody can do it like the Devils can. It's not boring when you're on top, any Devil's fan will tell you that.

  • @FranklinSherman NJ invented the trap system, the trap killed offense in the NHL through the late 90's early 00's. The casual fan prefers to see a 5-4 game not a 2-1 game

  • Actually the 2000 Devils were one of the more dynamic and exciting teams ever created. It is not our fault Toronto is a awful franchise that does nothing but exist. Enjoy missing the playoffs again buddy. LETS GO DEVILS

  • I wish we could be as exciting as that team from Toronto, hoo boy, non stop action, all the way to the golf course. The 2000 Devils are one of the greatest teams ever assembled.

    40 yeearrrssss

  • Seriously 6 shots?

  • And any video of the Devils would help you to sleep, wouldn't they? ZzZzZz

  • My All-Ontario championship ring helps me!

  • My Stanley Cup videos help me sleep at night.

  • The shotkeeper knows nothing about hockey. I'm glad the 6 shot count helps you to sleep at night!

  • really reaching now, arent you?

You can have the 4 extra shot attempts if it makes you sleep better at night.

  • Yeah... those moves only won him another Cup... But other than that, he's an idiot.

    Come on

  • 4:47 - "The shots on goal for the third period: for Toronto ONE, game total of SIX."

I just love how the crowd erupts at that

  • @ 2:49 look at Brodeur. 6 shots on goal, boy do I miss those defensive shut down days.

  • DUDE I HATE LOU FOR GETTING RID OF Arontt and Sykora thats the whole reason the offense cant score now we still need the that line thats still the best line ever in hockey history cus hossa left the pens and went to the wings like they need him anyway every player on detroit is going to the hall of fame so now what are they trying for not to loose a game all season i mean cmon lol leave someone good for a team who needs him
