James Last is a German big band leader whose popularity has been primarily in Europe. He released his first album, Non-Stop Dancing, in 65, which helped make him a major European star. He had 52 hit albums between 67-86, which made him second only to Elvis Presley in terms of number of charting records. This selection was his own composition and was included on an album by the same name released in 67. A cover version of Music From Across The Way by Andy Williams also made the Top 40 chart.

  • Wow, I have looked and looked for this album. It reminds me of my mother. She played it while cleaning house on Saturday mornings. As a child I did not understand the words, I just liked the melody. Now as a grown woman, I get why she loved it so........ RIP Mom.

  • WOW! I've only heard the instrumental version until now; never knew lyrics existed! What a nice surpise!

  • al escuchar este tema todos mis recuerdos de mi padre se agolpan en mi mente...que nostalgia al escuchar este tema.....

  • First heard this, and the instrumental by James Last in Phoenix, Arizona in the 1970 on KMEO and KQYT, both 55 minutes an hour of this type of music .... where did they both go? One became Country and the other rock. Gosh I miss them!!! Now I heard this on Prescott's KHAM and went on their website to get the name and artist. What memories it brings back. Thank you Lord for You Tube because I could not find it on I-Tunes.

  • FIFTY "Likes" and NO "Thumbs Down." That's perfection, James Last!

  • I am so happy that I found this number from that beautiful LP from James Last. It was and is one of my favorites I couldn't find . Always the instrumentel version and I wanted the song ! Thanks so much for sharing it, you made me happy !!

  • I've been searching for this version of this song for 30 years! I used to hear it on KSFO in San Francisco, back when that station played music. I was 9 or so last time I heard it, but it's been playing in my head often since then. Thank you for sharing this! It's every bit a stirring as it was the first time I heard it, if not more so.

  • Beautiful song. Thank you. I wish they sang more songs like this these days.

  • So this is James Last.. Its first time I hear about this name...

  • @BMerry63 Thank you! Always loved this song (first heard it in the early seventies on AM radio) but never knew there was an instrumental version as well by Last.

  • If you were looking for a beautiful instrumental version of this song by James Last, see 'The Last Guest Is Gone' by James Last, also on Youtube. They made an error when they listed the tracks on the album. The album name is 'With Compliments'.

    Cheers and good luck.

  • For those of you who are looking for the beautiful instrumental version of this. It is on the album 'With Compliments' by James Last. The track is called 'The Last Guest Is Gone'. Why ?? Someone made a mistake when they produced the record. Happens more than you would think.
