Portrait of Richard Dawkins, the British evolutionary biologist who has been outspoken in his support of Darwinism, atheism and secular humanism and opposition to religion.

He has written several books, including the iconic The Selfish Gene (1976), and holds the Charles Simonyi Chair for the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University.

  • (1/2) Running with what I've seen him say, and not having watched the next video, and admitting that I am making an assumption about his own beliefs from his statements about reproduction: Humans, like bonobos and dolphins, engage in sex for more than reproduction. It's for social reasons. The percentage of sex being had to reproduce is very low, and when it does happen, I'm willing to bet my ass that a majority of the offspring produced are by accident...

  • whew! take a look at those shorts!! 1:18

  • Just change the wording to "rational self interest." That way people don't take it the wrong way,

  • "So are you suggesting that stupid people are reproducing more successfully than smart people"

NO. That's just a general comment regarding people. Was my comment about my looks a 'Freudian slip'. Absolutely not. Hey, I only go by what women tell me. Ha! You have figured out something else about me, no doubt. I'm vain. Very, very vain. Hey, at least I'm honest...

  • "I'm not good looking"

    Freudian slip? :)

  • "I think that most of humanity, are, well, fucking stupid"

So are you suggesting that stupid people are reproducing more successfully than smart people? Hmmmm, I wonder if there is some evolutionary advantage? :)

  • I used to be a musician. However, I got out of the music scene a few years ago. I went in a 'different direction' while I have some young years left. I'm finishing my degree in Psychology. I plan on taking a masters in Neurology. And perhaps a PH.D. I've studied biological psych. Most modern psychology is based on Bio/Chem, so, evolution plays a role in much of it. Also, I don't believe that females are dumbing us down. I think that most of humanity (men and women), are, well, fucking stupid.

  • "Once they found out that Im a science geek' "

Are you suggesting that human females are dumbing us down? Hmmmmm, must be some evolutionary advantage. :)

  • My hunch is that evolution will account for most all human psychology and behavior. We will even discover many "vestigial structures" in the human psych.

Recently a friend of mine graduated from University of Washington with a psychology degree without even knowing what evolutionary psychology is. I thought what crap is this?

  • "I'm not good looking."

Oops. I meant: 'I'm not that bad looking.' Shit, that was a blow to my vanity. Can't have that...
