In 2005, as part of a nationwide push to increase membership using government subsidies as a source for union dues, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) organized Michigan's home health aides. As a result, tens of thousands of the state's independent, private-sector workers found themselves belonging to a government employees' union, with dues skimmed from their clients' Medicaid subsidy checks.

This video features Frank, a disabled adult with severe cerebral palsy, and his health aide, Judi, who's outraged that government money meant to help Frank is instead going to a union she wants no part of.

  • This is exactly why we need Freedom to Work in Michigan. Contact your Legislators and let them know that you support the right of every Michigan worker to work, without having to pay "fees or dues" for the "privilege".

  • Marxist organization like ACORN. Socialist organizations like this have devastated the US socially and economically.

  • Pretendhunterrider: and what YOU fail to mentuion uis that these workers are NOT emplotyees of some comapny, but the independent self-employed. Nor was there any "vote," but a card-check charade.

  • There is one right that Judy and all citizens of this great democracy have -- the right to market ones skills and abilities on the open market. Its called the free enterprise system and it allows Judy at any time to return to her former position -- that of "Private/Independent" Health Care Worker.

  • What this video fails to mention (among many other things) is there was a VOTE to unionize, and providers chose overwhelmingly to unionize. Also, there is an opt-out option for any provider who does not want to be part of the Union. Nice propaganda. Well done.

  • labor unions have always been purely organized criminal organizations--nothing more--nothing less

  • Medicaid money going to unions, what can the Democrat money laundering machine come up with next?

  • @bullonay True.

  • @LisaBaby67 Because they are in bed with SEIU...Trumka is a weekly visitor to the Oval Office...

  • @sheinzman

In Michigan, 40,000 childcare workers represented by the UAW and AFSCME won bargaining rights in December 2006 through an executive order.

    you lie.
