@jaime5429...the only explanation I can give for her sisters violent behavior is ignorance. All she knew was being "shuttered", chained, and confused. Obviously she was mentally ill, and the family, too ashamed or ignorant to deal back in those days, chose to hide their "misfortune". If you watch the movie "Nell", although she wasn't violent, there is still that instinct of "fight or flight". Those are our basic instincts as humans. This movie was marketed towards evil, spooky, scary.

I remember watching this movie when i was a kid and only remember the last scene when she finally gets to see her sister locked up in a room. Her sister didn't try to harm her because she recognized her. but I never knew what was wrong with her sister. Did she have a mental disorder? Can someone tell me what happen to her sister and why she was violent?
