December 17, Rockcliffe University hosted a Q and A session with Jessica Lyon and Nigma Sterling. Topic was the Phoenix and Firestorm viewers. Jessica answered questions from the audience, and from the blog, in this 190 minute long session. http://www.phoenixviewer.com/
"Lets have a conversation. Your Q's, Our answers.
Lets Talk...
There has been a great amount of anger, frustration, confusion, misunderstanding, fighting and tension among our users with regards to the status and future of the Phoenix and Firestorm Viewers. I think it's time we give you a venue to constructively vent, have your questions/concerns answered and allow me to explain our position.

I have organized a Q&A event that will be held in the Rockcliffe Universities 4 region auditorium. It will be hosted by Nigma Sterling of Rockcliffe Uni. The format will be similar to our Office Hours with a host taking questions and me answering them. The event will be video recorded and made available for those who cannot attend. We will take questions both from the audience and from the comments section of THIS blog post. So if you will not be able to attend but have questions, concerns or criticism you want answered please write them down as a comment on this blog post. But do note, I will not answer things like "You suck!", "Your viewer sucks!", "I don't like it". Questions, concerns and Constructive criticism only. That means you need to provide actual reasons for your complaints so that I can address those reasons."
Filmed in Second Life, on Rockcliffe Conservatory, by Chantal Harvey.

  • Viewer 1 deprecation has been a long time coming. People knew it was coming. People have had more than enough time to transition to newer viewers. Quit complaining and trying to point blame at LL, and get the hell out of the way of progress.

    That, or you know, ragequit.

    kthxbai.

  • V1 was going down the only good thing there was was the pie menu, you all know this was going to happen so dont need to try and recover. V1 is just as slow as the military updating their computers which is still XP.be thankful that you have firestorm. Phoenix is becoming less popular with Exodus, Firestorm, and all those other viewers. If people want to quit because the want to complain that their is no v1 viewers they can suck it up and move on and not play sl or use a better viewer.

  • omg every viewer sucks SL just have a viewer that is usable!!!!!

  • you could have made this interview on a camping chair

  • So THAT explains "the Rock" issue: 1:51:10 (I crashed and logged back on to see one of the Linden's rock prims on my avatar's pelvis)

  • i'm a junkie & SL in my drug.

  • @jhe3Vulrik Dude, it aint as much an interview as it's an QA... He is just reading up some questions you people have asked... simple...

  • if your iphone haves a update or your pc , you update it ! so why not update your sl viewer ? its 2012 now ! no longer 2007.... UPDATE !!!

  • @gardevoirpro hmm.. All the computers I have on base are Win7 and have been for the past few years.. the only computer I know of that uses XP is a non networked due to a specific CAD program that only runs on it (CNC mill, they dont update OS that often)

  • @EnsignMinneapolis We already have the newest renderer from upcoming Linden viewer backported, to V1 UI viewer, Singularity. Was easy.

  • Firestorm seems ok so far, a bit slower but I guess we all need to get better computers eventually.

But there are also some things I love about phoenix that we don't have in firestorm yet.

I say yet because I'm sure that we'll get them eventually.

Till then I'd probably stick with phoenix.

Because we NEED our 'mark button' on radar, very specific, I know but for us it is important.

  • This dude is horrible at interviewing, I feel bad for Jessica.
