There was i stood on the flight deck of HMS Avenger in 1988 with one of these sucking ogin at a great rate with me and 2 other MEM's hangin onto the firehose for dear life! Man oh man these put out some serious water pressure.

Efficiency seems very poor. The pumped liquid is about the same than the consumed one...
Who needs a Briggs and Stratton on a camp site when you have one of those? :-)

These pumps were used by the Royal Navy as emergency pumps to either pressurise the ships fire main or pump out flooded compartments. They were called 'portable' and could be run inside the ship with special exhausts fitted. the biggest problem with them was getting fuel to them a fast enough rate to keep them running.
