Been writing lots of reference letters and decided to post something about how to get good ones and avoid bad ones.

  • Thanks this video is very helpful. I'm a recent college grad and I'm applying to graduate school now. Do you have any videos on career direction as well?

  • @Lamb2008 That was my first video in the pursuit of intellectual happiness series. If you tell me what you mean by "career direction", I could post something. Or if you just want to send me a question, I am happy to respond to that.

  • This post has provided an excellent refresher for me - thank you so much for this BWS

  • @Shazzys100 My pleasure! If I think of something else useful, I'll get it up.

Plus jabbering about my hair, of course!

  • Wow...Social work! See, i knew there was more to why I liked you so much. Great pointers and keep doing what you do miss BlackWomanScholar. Your energy is just swell.

  • @sunlovedulce Thanks!

  • By career direction I mean, how to make sure you are pursuing your true career interest by applying to a graduate program. What graduate school entails, how it can further a career. I know some who applied to graduate school for one thing thinking it was for them, but it wasn't so they switched areas of interest. Personally I'm interested in lots of stuff and can't decide. Its really difficult, b/c neither one really seems like it would hold my interest for more than 2yrs.

  • Thank you so much for posting this!!! I'm already in graduate school, but this info will be great for fellowship reference letters!

  • @lisamaud My pleasure. I hope its useful. Its the kind of thing you would get from a mentor, but lots of people don't have access to them.

Don't hesitate to request something you think might be helpful to yourself or others. Thanks for checking it out.

  • @splinta24 Thanks. I'm getting follow up questions through my PMs, so hopefully that means it's helping some people.

  • This video was so very helpful......so many great pointers..
