I'm enormously proud and especially emotional with this slide show which took me over two weeks to put together. There was a lot of scanning and uploading; cropping and "Ken Burns(ing)." The photos of my grandparents, great grandmother, parents, aunts, uncles, siblings, and cousins were in various states of degradation, but I did the best I could to get them viewable.
What makes this production special was having the ability to add as background actual audio recordings of the voices of these dear ones. While the photos start in the 1930's and go mostly into the mid-70's, the audio was recorded from 1957-1969. From my great-grandmother who lived to be 88 singing with all her heart and soul even though by then she was totally deaf; to my Nana's hearty belly-laugh; to my aunts' self-conscious silliness; to my father who not only recorded family but our parakeets singing and music from the TV and radio (which also serves as authentic background)...I have these voices newly speaking to me as though I stepped back in time.
Figuring out how to excerpt short bits of audio and laying them on the tracks was an exercise in creativity and learning how to make the technology serve my purposes. My father would have loved this stuff.
Anyone who watches this and wants to do the same thing, feel free to write to me and I will try to answer any questions you have about doing the same.
Thanks for watching.
