The Groop originated as The Wesley Three, a folk trio formed by schoolfriends from Melbourne's exclusive Wesley College, Peter McKeddie, Max Ross and Richard Wright. They signed with CBS Australia label in 1964 and released a single, an EP and an album.

The Wesley Three evolved into The Groop in 1965 with the addition of English-born guitarist Peter Bruce and
a third single, "I'm Satisfied", provided them with their first hit.
"Empty Words" was the first single that failed to chart and let to a split and rebirth. A second incarnation of this band included Ronnie Charles and Brian Cadd and saw greater success in the later '60s

  • @libraryquiet I agree.

  • The Groop..??

I'd never heard of them before!

  • empty words like Mullumbimby? .... ha ha ha

  • @libraryquiet

I'd say its more 'I Don't Believe You (She Acts Like We Never Have Met' from the same album but yea its still good song but suspiciously similar melody.

  • these guys went to my school :)

  • The verse's melody sounds a lot like Bob Dylan's song on the album, " Another Side of Bob Dylan" The name of the song is, " She Belongs to Me."

  • Peter sells real estate in Melbourne.

  • For those who apparently had "Mister Wright" as a teacher, you learned from one of the best, whether or not you realize it. The Groop was a very innovative band that produced a number of rock classics.
