  • It is about 700 miles that are considered "desert" from the Mexican border to the Sierra's but that's only partly true. All of these deserts are also separated by mountains, several which had snow on them during my thru-hike. During the day I could be hiking in the desert, then camping in the snow that night. The desert was a great part of my hike that I wouldn't think of having missed.

  • do people generally start in the south or the north? seems like i would want to start in the north and gradually get lighter as i travel to warmer climates

  • aww man, my dream is to thru hike all the north american trekking trails, shame i can't get along enough visa for it. real shame. it would be nice to have a change from the hazy atmosphere that surrounds hong kong that comes from china.

  • From the Mexican border, how many desert miles before you get into the cooler climate of the mtns? I hate desert hiking.
