Learn the easy way to create chainmail. Build your own lightweight chainmail armor perfect for a costume piece or prop. Few tools required. This video includes a teaching technique that I developed while teaching groups of visitors at the museum.

12 mm Silver was used in this project, both suppliers produce a variety of colors.

  • This Video is Brilliant. I've been trying to figure out a way to make chain maille for a costume that DIDN'T require me purchasing a $150 (that's the cheapest I've found a sleeveless maille shirt like I want) shirt that I'd probably never wear other than to RenFaire. Simply BRILLIANT.

  • Thanks for the comment. I am glad that you liked it, I would like to see photos or video of what you make.

  • I really like your style of teaching this with the curtain rings. Genius! Made this so much easier to catch on. Now I'm thinking of making something for my niece and nephew. Thanks again.

  • Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. It really helped me to teach large groups of kids that visited the museum during the exhibit. And it really makes it easier to see the patterns. Good luck with your project, make sure to post a video of your project.

  • really good explanation of how to put the rings together thanks

  • Omg YES! Im definately doing this!!!!!

  • Sadly, your video has made it clear that I do not have the patience for this. However, AWESOME tutorial. This has always confused me. Using SC rings was brilliant. Well done and thank you.

  • how long does it normally take you?

  • Would you be able to give an estimate on how many coils/boxes of 100's would be needed to make a chest piece made of this stuff, and what kind of weight it may be (worried about it not being able to sustain the weight)?
