The M-50s with VVSS and narrow track carried the D-75-50 75mm gun. A French adaptation of the Panther's gun. M-51s on the M-4A3 with HVVS and wider T-84 track carried the D-1504 L-44 105mm gun. Both had a large counterweight on the turret bussle to even out the weight of the guns. Early Shermans carried the worthless GP 75mm, but later ones carried a better 76mm gun. The Israeli M-51s were built from M-4A3E8s, which carried the 76mm.
