It's unusual to meet this snakeunderwater in the ocean, because I think it's not a sea snake after all. Most probably a water snake but I don't know which kind. So any help with identification is most appreciated. The snake was filmed on a sandy bottom near Moalboal town on the south west coast of Cebu Island in the Philippines.

  • I think, it's definitely a type of water snake, not a sea snake.

  • @kageorochimaru I also think so because it's lacking a paddle on the tail.

  • Never seen before, where did you film it?

  • @divejerk1 Moalboal bay

  • very interesting, thanks

  • @watersanctuary I thought the same, probably it's not a salt water sea snake.

  • @kageorochimaru uhmmm.. its a filesnake :) im sure of it..

  • it usually wanders near mangroves.. sometimes in rivers.. but it originally hunts a night in the sea :D its a file snake! YEY!

  • acrochordus granulatus.. we have lots of that here in southern philippines... :D

  • file snake.,

  • it's a seasnake due to it's paddle like tail if you look closely at 0:45-0:51.

or it could just be a file snake

  • I know it lives in mangrove areas and sometimes do visit the coast but I haven't heard of it in the open sea. Looks a lot like a banded elephant trunk snake but there are some slight differences.
