Because we have been living with fish in a box for so long that we forget that they are ancient intelligent creatures who appreciate, understand and "enjoy" interaction. I tried doing this in my 75 two weeks ago and I broke my new computer, ruined the carpet, and broke the tank. I also got stung at least 13 times by my lionfish and am still picking shards of glass from my scrotum. Last week I found my dried up eel behind the couch and it smells rancid. Overall I think it was a good bonding experience. Plan on doing it in my 10 gallon on friday.
