As far as I'm concerned, Ralph Rainger was one of the greatest melodists ever -- right up there with Jerome Kern and Frederick Leowe.

How wonderful to find this! Thank you for posting it. I am a big admirer of Ralph Rainger. On my channel I have his "My Bluebird's Singing the Blues".

There is an article on Ralph Rainger in today's Wall Street Journal (Dec. 30, 08)

You are so right, Andrew. The three piano scene does sound like "The Original Piano Trio".

Who needs the Original Piano Trio when you have Ralph Rainger and that cameraman?

Would have had a long career, sadly he was killed in a plane crash.

Wow, I had no idea there was any film footage of Ralph Rainger, much less audio. But, I guess that goes to show how little I know. It is great to hear him "live"... not just playing, but also talking as well! That 3-piano overdubbing stunt at the end is phenomenal...no doubt a marvelous feat at the time and still amazing today. By the way, "Ralph Rainger" was only his professional name... his real name was Ralph Reichenthal... if that means anything to anyone. Thanks for the clip!

You weren't the only one surprised. Ralph Rainger was my father, and I knew nothing of this. BTW Reichenthal was legally changed to Rainger well before I was born in 1934. It is great to see he is still remembered.

Wow! Do you have any unpublished manuscripts, etc.? I think it's high time someone put out a folio of his music, too... there are too many good (published) tunes and solos to go uncollected for so long!
