After two years of hard work, students and faculty from Parsons The New School for Design, the Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy at The New School, and Stevens Institute of Technology saw their vision for affordable, zero-energy housing become a reality as the Empowerhouse debuted on the National Mall as part of the Solar Decathlon. The team won this first-ever "Affordability" contest in the history of the Decathlon, with the least expensive house on the Mall. Following the competition, the house is now on its way to the Deanwood neighborhood of Washington, D.C., where it will expand into a two-family home for Habitat for Humanity families.
