This is a long interview with Frank Zappa from October 26, 1981.
This interview only aired once as far as I know and ironically, Zappa was playing his last concerts at "The Palladium" in New York City.
Covered in this interview is Frank's negative experiences with the stage hands unions.
One of the reasons Frank never played the Palladium after November 1, 1981 was due to excessive stage hand union costs associated with doing concerts at that venue.

The first thing I noted while editing this video is how relaxed Frank is and how good Sandi Freeman was at asking Frank open ended questions and then allowing Frank to answer. For such a long interview it has few commercial breaks.

This is a 5 part interview.

I am sorry for the poor video quality. But even "back in the day" when I was heavily into trading video NOBODY had a better quality copy of this interview.

NOBODY.

For a long time I thought this interview was lost in my tape vault, fortunately, I found it.

Enjoy this little piece of FZ interview history.

  • so few people watch this

  • Exaltation of ignorance makes FZ really mad. Good thing he didn't live to hear today's music, especially the RAP and HIP HOP. See Dr. Len Horowitz MUSICAL CULT CONTROL paper. Also, search youtube for Sold Their Souls For Rock and Roll, and also G. Craige Lewis "truth behind hip hop". Blow your own mind. "Schools train people to be ignorant with style...to be a functional ignoramus."

  • Thanks to the Zappa family for keeping these interviews of FZ on YouTube.

  • this interview is fantastic all the way...and everything he talks about is still relevant !!

  • Honestly, this is probably the greatest Zappa interview I've ever seen. Humor wise, no, it's not really a funny one as many others are, but it's damn insightful.

  • imagine if someone could hack fox news and play this video series.

  • frank had a very clear perspective.

  • who is this woman she is great! best zappa interview ever!

  • 'gunpowder's pretty conserative these days' lol

  • "im not mean..." lol
