After counseling VVF {obstetric fistula}, patients for some years and being deeply moved by their suffering I felt compelled to write about their plight. I approached a fellow counselor and told her of my idea and her response was this: many people have written about VVF but they did not know us, you Jennifer, have lived among us and know us, you should write about us. And so a few years after leaving Africa I started writing the book"Broken Pottery". It is a fictional account of a possible journey from disease to cure of a VVF sufferer. The characters are completely fictional but I hope I have captured enough realism for the reader's heart to go out to these girls and women and to be inspired to support them in their quest for healing.
