Has it ever dawned on conservatives that we have had the two Bush tax cuts and Obama tax cut and yet the rich still aren't creating jobs. what does that tell you? That it doesn't work.
A progressive and a tea-party member were having breakfast when the tea-party member mentioned his misfortune. His wallet had been lost. Someone had taken one dollar out and bought food. For this he was angry. Later, someone had stolen his credit cards, cleaned out his accounts and sold his identity.
“You must be very angry at that” said the liberal.
“No, not really”, said the tea-party member, “because now the person that stole everything can hire the person that stole only one dollar."
@foodserver53 Cutting taxes did help for some years yes this is true. However in the long term when you cut government revenue drastically by giving tax cuts, and subsidies to big corps followed by sending the country into two wars, then it does hurt the country in the long run. And yes I'm speaking about the Bush years. Not that either party has been perfect my friend:)
...and another damn thing. Cutting taxes DID work! If you look at growth and unemployment figures during the Bush administration you would see that. You base your analysis that cutting taxes did NOT work on the tail end last eighth of his presidency. Our recent problems are unrelated to the Bush tax cuts.
Laffer curve. Common sense tells us all that those with the power and wealth to control their own destiny will at some tipping point move their assets to a more profitable situation. This is just the plain common sense truth that those with the ways and means (ie the productive wealthy) will at some point move as evidenced by the move from NY and Cali to Texas. If the Progressives have their way with inflation, oppressive large government & excessive entitlements they would move out of the US!
I want to say that the case you make is about as good as I've seen but your comment at the end about the body politic being 'beneath you' goes far in explaining the degree of arrogance it must take to so casually dispose of someone else's hard earned income. I understand this is a minor point to people who think like you but it's not your money to dispose of and it's not the government's either...When you are smart enough to EARN that money, you will then have acquired the wisdom to spend it...
I notice the author isn't eager to quote projections on how much these extra taxes would reduce the deficit. He refrains from doing so because he knows the amount would be infinitesimal even in the highly unlikely event that such additional taxes weren't accompanied by additional spending. Neither am I surprised that the names Coolidge, Kennedy, Reagan or Bush are not found in a treatise suggesting that lowering taxes on the rich has no impact on economic growth. History can be inconvenient.
Why do we assume that raising taxes on the "rich" will not affect their quality of life? The upper middle class, those intellectuals and truly hard workers who may earn slightly above $250,000 (let's say $300,000) are always getting shafted and ignored. We already pay the highest tax bracket, same as billionaires who earn tens of thousands of times our income, whilst working longer, more challenging, and more skilled hours than your average Joe. Shame on the greedy selfish rich and well to do for they our poor at heart. They have more then enough but they want even more. Not willing to help America and her citizenes. They will pay for their greed, for GOD is watching over them.
