I agree that it is better that kids speak Breton with a French accent than that they do not speak Breton at all. I am just sad to see that the policies of the French state are causing the disappearance of Breton as an authentic native language with its own distinct accent. But I repeat: Great that these kids are learning Breton. Hopefully they will pass the language on to their children.
What is wrong with speaking a language with an accent, think about all the accents in English both venacular and from non-english countries; does it matter, they are still speaking english regardless.
I guess it's a testament to how the French state has tried to kill off languages such as Breton by suppression over the years. The original pronunciation may have been lost over the years, but even so, if the language survives in any form, it's worth it. Better that than if it had died out and disappeared.
@ShahenShabunc By all means - it is wonderful that these kids are learning Breton, albeit with a French twist. If there are also kids who are native speakers, even better. I grew up in Wales with Welsh as my native tongue, and I am happy that the Welsh language has had a happier fate than Breton. In my childhood we were educated in Welsh, and in recent years the number of speakers has increased. O bydded i'r heniaith barhau :-) Cyfarchion o Gaerfyrddin
@Bard68S - actually phonetics is often heavily influenced by neighbor languages, especially if this neighbor language is "circumventing" minor language. If you listen some basque speakers, you'll hear a strong spanish accent. Nevertheless it is not that bad - phonetics is less important compared to syntax, vocabulary and grammar.
These kids all have a terribly strong French accent, and they do not at all sound like native Celtic speakers . Sad! I guess there are few prospects for an authentic Breton langauge in the future :-(
Un breton chimique perunvann doublé d'un accent français presque caricaturale et de constructions claquées sur le français... et bien si c'est bien si c'est ça le breton de demain et bien il est bel et bien mort...

Come on! They are trying hard, learning, and that's great. We see old languages trying hard to survive everywhere.
