@jdj4u I'm not sure what causes this - I think I might have to see what you're doing. I generally find that using a thicker thread is good at first, till you get a good feel for it. Good luck!
IF YOU CAN BELIVE THIS I USE TO WATCH MY GRANNY DO THIS WITHOUT A SHUDLE SHE ONLY USED HER FINGERS IT WAS AMAZING I CAN GET IT STARTED BUT I CANT GET MY SHUDLE RIGHT. I GAVE UP. LOL
i know she's not holding the thread in the traditional manner but there are different ways to tat, just as there are different ways to knit. It does sound funny when she pronounces picot wrong, but i thought her tatting method was interesting.
Wow...Thank You, after trying several books etc. I finally get the stitches....now I plan on making tons of lace in my future move, we are going to be driving for two days so I will have plenty of time. This will be great for a bunch of projects I have been working on. Thank you for the videos.
I like the 3rd video the best as well. I haven't tried yet but going to this next week.BUT I do have a question. I have a cell phone "charm" thing that was made by tatting and it has beads on it. very small but they are there. they look to be on the picots(sp?)How or at what point do you add these?? I'm so afraid that mine is going to wear out before I can get a chance to try tatting and figure out how to add beads. Thanks in advance to all.
very good close up, excellent demo. I've followed this closely, and cannot understand what I'm doing wrong. My ring only closes when I pull the tail thread, the shuttle thread will not move.

I don't have hand problems from tatting - but I've been doing it since high school - more years than I can count. I learned from my Grandmother.
