  • @NathanH5 thanks fred, i got some nathan 6er's recorded on my phone as my ringtone's. the best one i have was the grand trunk 6 chime step top used on Ohio Central 6325 during her first years of excursion service on the Ohio Central.

  • @InsensitiveCrayon

They used this same whistle on the big-6 Shay the year I was there for the whistle blow. It is a marked Nathan long-bell 6-chime. Those two on the 765 and 1225 have shrouds which cause them to whippoorwill and blow totally different sounds. I have two of these big Nathans and can vouch for their sound.

You are 100% right!! That's why so many roads copied the Nathan-6 to make their own, such as the SP. The Nathan 6-chime is definitely the king of all locomotive whistles!!

  • Love a southern 6 chime so is the PRR 3 chime another great whistle.

  • @2speakfreely You've got that right.

  • Who cares what kind of whistle that is it's not like Antibes going to go out and buy one. It sounds fantastic. Amazing video. At 120 it looks like and sounds like an alco is coming at the camera not a heisler fantastic.

  • @guitboxchicken deregulation actualy saved the railroads. The ICC, once created to prevent unfair pricing by railroad tycoons, actualy helped to kill thousands of railroads in the United States.

  • Awesome whistle!

  • @2speakfreely Even the steam locomotives of yesterday, for every ton moved, they still produce less pollution than your average tractor trailer. It is much more efficient to move freight by rail than by truck. If only our railroads were a little more reliable; thank you deregulation!
