I would have liked some explanation to why these settings make Firefox seem to work better.

I've seen these settings mentioned on a site with post date in 2008. So what may seem to work back than may not be the case with the curent version.

But I respect your video and pointing to the innards of Firefox configuration.

the thing is that firefox consumes more memory than chrome, its faster not just on loading websites, but on the UI in general
