People cropped dogs ears in the past to PREVENT them from being hurt, aswell as docking. Its all a matter of if you like it or not but that is in the breeds history. They docked many types of herding breeds so that cattle and other farm animals would not step on the tail. Cropping is not just for show and looks aswell. Try researching before you judge the subject.
