Just a little demonstration video of my bluetooth controlled model Ferrari. I've replaced all of the electronics, and added servo steering. The car would only turn when in reverse originally, which was neither fun nor practical. Since a portion of the steering system was in place, upgrading so it could steer in both directions and make use of a servo wasn't too difficult. I've used a small 9G hobby servo, which makes the noise heard in the video while steering. The bluetooth module used is a reasonably priced slave bluetooth UART module. This means other devices can connect to it, but it can't actively connect to other devices. It's called GP-GC021 and can be purchased from Sure Electronics. The drive motor is controlled by a H-bridge made of discrete transistors, and everything is tied together by an ATTiny2313. I've made a program to steer the car from my PC in visual Basic, and a small java midlet so I can steer it from my cell phone as well. Schematics, firmware and software are on my site:

  • the j2me code was not working on my Nokia 2700 classis i added flush() after write() in it started to work

  • @satyamfifa Awesome! I'll put this on my website. Perhaps this is why it wouldn't work on most of the phones I tried.

  • If I did that, the first thing I'd ant to do is slap a camera on that car. It'd be even better if you could somehow rig the camera to broadcast live to your PC (don't know how practical it is if it's possible) xD

As for getting the car to work with your phone, have you looked into retail possibilities?

  • Have you seen the iPhone controlled car using wifi? They've put a camera and servos in a full sized gasoline car, and control it over wifi with an iPhone! I just got a N85 which has wifi, so hooking up a webcam isn't so far fetched anymore. Optionally one could buy one of those small pinhole cameras and just slap it on. They run for 50 bucks on ebay.
