3 miles north of THE FALLS of NIAGARA, the NIAGARA RIVER rushes thru the GREAT GORGE, forming the mile long WHIRLPOOL RAPIDS and dropping 50 feet. At the sharp right angle elbow turn, the NIAGARA RIVER rotates and surges into an amazing WHIRLPOOL basin which is 1,700 feet X 1,200 feet and up to 125 feet deep. The Canadian attraction, the NIAGARA SPANISH AERO CABLE-CAR takes up to 35 daring tourists across the WHIRLPOOL for a 10 minute, 3,600 foot long ride, hundreds of feet above the vortex! Built in 1913 and in use since August 1916, this vintage AERO CAR was designed by Leonardo Torres-Quevedo and is thrilling just to watch!! These views are all from the WHIRLPOOL STATE PARK in NY, USA in early June 2009!

  • I'm glad you decided to do the hike. Without a doubt the best way to see the whirlpool, and one of the best parts of Niagara Falls.
