This video is part 2. I show the end result of several books I had as a current project in my bindery. Cloth and Leather Bindings. http://www.book-restoration.com

  • Thank you so much. I'm glad you are enjoying the channel!

  • Gold Finishing/ hand gold tooling is the hardest part of the Fine Bookbinding process. It is a lengthy process and one I'm not sure will fit into a 5 minute video. I do have a couple of books on my bench this week that will require 22k gold tooled labels and I will try to do a brief video explaining/showing the process. I will also do a video after that showing how to do ink/paper labels.

  • Thanks very much, Amanda. I look forward eagerly to the upcoming videos. There's nothing else like your videos that I've found anywhere else. Very much appreciated!

  • I'm glad ghlyall agrees that it would be good to see how Amada uses a type holder to apply gold letters to leather. I spent abut $1,000 to purchase a type holder and electric stove from Talas in NYC (which sells bookbinding supplies) and despite many attempts, the gold letters I apply to leather are barely visible on the leather. I'm not sure if stove wasn't hot enough (I tried a number of settings) or if there is some other issue. I can bind books easily but can't get gold letters on.

  • Despite my previous comment, I agree with IVYpark909 - it would be fun to watch. Thanks Amanda.

  • Again you've made a superb video which is highly informative for all of us who are fascinated by the variety of skills necessary to do this kind of work, even recreationally (that includes me). I continue to be amazed at how you take books so badly damaged and restore them as good as -- and often better than -- their original state. I would love to see a future video where you demonstrate in detail the steps you take using a type holder to place gold letters on leather. Thanks!!!!!

  • Thanks, that was great. I noticed your comment about paper labels on cloth, as opposed to gold lettering. In my own amateur binding, binding my own books, I much prefer not to include gold lettering - simply because I don't like the look of it. I thought I was in a minority of one - but obviously not! Maybe you could do a video specifically on this issue? That would be great!
