(Sacramento) -- During a news conference on the steps of the state capitol in Sacramento, Speaker-elect Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) announced she has introduced Assembly Bill 2370. AB 2370 was written in response to unexpected and exorbitant rate hikes at some assisted living facilities, specifically those run by Atria. With senior citizen advocates crowded around her, Assemblymember Bass explained AB 2370 will require assisted living facilities to provide a written record of their rate increases for the previous three years.
At the same news conference Assemblymember Lois Wolk (D-Davis) called for passage of her Assembly Bill 2101. AB 2101 would require residential care facilities for the elderly with more than 6 persons to establish an emergency plan that includes various elements, including procedures relating to disasters and emergencies, and to submit the plan to the department's Community Care Licensing Division as a condition of initial licensure and renewal.
