This is "Silence before the Storm" from Final Fantasy X. Final Fantasy X by Squaresoft/Square-Enix. Music composed by Nobuo Uematsu.

This is an original arrangement by Vincent Lo. Watch his original sheet video where you can get some more interesting in-depth info about it and also find out about how to get the sheets:

I would like to say that I like this beautiful arrangement even better than the original version in the game! For me, playing this feels as if this piano version is what the piece should have been from the beginning, as it really puts a twist on the atmosphere that the original conveyed, and the piano sound encapsulates the mood of the Macalania Woods in a different and more serene way than the original did although both have the same musical content. Anyway, I had a really great time learning and playing this. Many thanks.

  • This will always be my most favorite YTube vid :) 3rd time I've commented on it lol. Excessive on my part but it's THAT beautiful to me. This song is my happy place and nobody has ever delivered it with the feeling and finesse that you have V.

  • @finaltits well thank you, i am happy to hear that and i appreciate it a lot. i would probably have to agree that this might be one of my best videos and certainly one of the best arrangements i've ever played. that time after i signed up on youtube was great, and this arrangement was a big part of that. i shall hope to record this on a grand some day.

  • Might I ask what model piano you are playing? It has a lovely sound and I'd be interested in looking into purchasing one for myself.

Very well played, by the way. I believe it captures the essence of not only the Thunder Plains, but the turmoil that the group was going through at the time of the game (Yuna's decision).

  • @Drassielle Hi, this is the Kawai CA-9, it's an outdated model and the current equivalent would be the CA-93. I can't recommend the current line though because the pianos are having some firmware problems which result in cracking noises, desync issues etc.. So if you want to get one, test it out thoroughly at a store. And yes this arrangement is really great, I like it a lot, too. That entire forest was just genius, and as you say, the part of the game was very memorable as well.

  • @EvanFingerstyle That's beautiful.

  • This now ranks amongst my favourite YouTube videos ever, with Kyle Landry's One Winged Angel, and Verdegrand's Path of Repentance. Absolutely marvelous...

  • Flawless. You could really show all the emotion of this song. Beautifully executed, Versions like these always makes me fell I should learn how to play the Piano. I can play this song in the Guitar, but two people are necessary to play the full arrangement, and I really envy Pianists because the can be a little more independent on playing these songs. Congratulations!

  • Wow Just... Wow

  • Amazing and right on point with the original piece..a job Very well done dude...

  • One of my favorite songs of all time.

  • this. is. awesome.

  • I haven't really been able to feel music lately.. I don't know if I have simply heard too many cliches from what tonal harmony has to offer, but nothing really phases me.

It may just be the nostalgia, but this performance, arrangement, and composition really got to me. I experienced goosebumps for the first time in months. I just want to thank you, Verdegrand, for helping me keep my musical sanity!

  • Awesome job! This sounds *exactly* like it does in the game. :D

  • @jeeps005 No, but if you play the video you want to repeat, highlight "tube" in youtube (in the URL) and replace it with "repeat".

The result? You'll be able to listen to this song for as long as you please on auto repeat!
