I built this telecaster clone for my friend Mike Vella for his birthday. It is an ash body with a maple/rosewod neck. The body I made from Ron Kirn's templates and the neck is a Mighty Might. The pickups are a Seymour Duncan Tele '59 and a Duncan Designed P90 stack. Its wired with a 3 way toggle switch and push-pull switch on the volume knob to coil tap the '59 pickup. I believe it has a orange drop capacitor for the tone.

The amp is either a Fender Blues Deville or a DRZ Maz 38 (I can't remember which one I had at home). The grit I turn on briefly I believe is a Ibanez Tubescreamer.

The strings were brand new and I didn't stretch them enough so they made the guitar go out of tune.

  • Hello. I´m thinking about making a tele body from a Ron Kirn temlplate when i get the oppertunity. I was wondering about the pickguard. Did you make it, or is it easy to find one that fits? Cause it´s made from a 50´s model as you know. May be the guards are all the same. I dont have a clue =/ .So yeah, nice job by the way. Sounds killer. Wish my friends gave me guitars for my birthdays. Bastards!

  • @jonkarljons I bought this pickgard but had to shape it for the P90, since I didn't clone the route from any set location. It originally was an Esquire (no pickup) pickguard. You can buy a licensed company like AllParts or WD or even aftermarket Fender pickguards and it'll fit. Even the non-licensed ones will be fine as you aren't trying to line up screw-holes. I just find the non-licensed ones slightly different on the horn area, but usually cheaper which tends to fall into my price range.

  • Which pickup is the Seymour Duncan?

  • @bill4770 Both are Duncan...although the neck pickup is Duncan Designed P90 (Korean made).

  • @dividedbyjames Thanks a lot for the info. I appreciate it. Now if only there were some trees in Iceland =) Got the idea to use driftwood, takes 4-5 years to drift here from Siberia, if I can find some one who´s sawing and drying it. Just an idea, but it would be cool. Any who... thanks again.
