It was a pleasant day of January 2010, Visiting the reputed Akhara of Guru Amichand, at Village Gadhi, in the heart of South Delhi was a bliss in disguise. It was 2.pm when we reached there, it is a neat and clean mud wrestling Akhara (pit) , beside an equally beautifully maintained temple of various Hindu Deities mainly Hanuman, Shiva, godess Kali and rooms for wrestlers behind the temple. Wrestler from the soil, son of Zamindars, villagers, poor labourers and even sons of rickshaw puller do the wrestling here, asserts Khalifa Sh. Chotu Ramji, Brilliant wrestlers, specially the younger ones, i witnessed , and my mind filled with the apathy of the govenment towards the plight of wrestlers and towards the sports, at the same time it was like, feeling gratitude and respect for guru charni ji, who is following the footsteps of his father Guru Amichand ji, and even after a small govt. job is supporting many wrestlers along with maintaning the akhara, devoted people like him has kept the indian wrestling alive till date.. yet the future seem unsure. No it is not like that assets sh. chotu ram ji, after the olympic medal of Sushil , the sports is seeing some upward trends. , The akhara is running in two shifts here, and many famous wrestler are prcticing here, ... he introduced us to many wrestlers, even a brilliant young boy, the son of a rickshaw puller, another one a famous wrestler working in the vegetable market nearby to support his expenses of being a wrestler ..
