  • by the way we fixed it, i guess when we re attached the carbs i had the throttle limit screw quite loose. after being attached it basically unscrewed and fell out. so when the throttle was closed it closed the butterfly valves completely to the point where it had no air coming into it and died

pulled the tank and airbox and somehow got my hand down there and screwed the thing in

still needs final adjustment but it does run

  • nice one! too much fuel. glad it was a cheap fix :-)

  • @BJMoorhouse pain in the ass but a cheap fix none the less

    im glad too

  • Just lower the idle!!!

  • @ToastToGo so i didnt wanna take the carbs off cuz its a pain so i pulled the throttle open, and due to mine being in crap shape it doesnt snap shut, so with it open i disconnected the fuel lines to the carbs got gas over my hands and finally screwed the dam thing back in, it may not be a perfect idle yet cuz its between 1500-2k but ill do the final adjustment when i get to actually ride it and make sure its the right operating temperature :D

    fixed :D

  • @jhardy66617 I kind of figured that something was messed up with the idle screw being off or something. Great work!

  • @BJMoorhouse read the reply i put to toastogo and youll see how i fixed it, its a lot to retype as it took up two comment boxes haha

    but its running now :D

  • @ToastToGo so i found something out, the throttle screw somehow was loose enough that when we were putting it all back together it totally came off so no matter if we spun it right or left it wasnt keeping the throttle any more open or closed, after twisting it a full 17 revolutions to the right, incrimentally btw, it didnt have any effect so my friend went upstairs for 10 minutes by the time he got back down i had the tank off, the airbox unscrewed and just 2 screws left for the velocity stacks

  • @BJMoorhouse ah cool, it was being a pain in the ass getting the whole airbox back on right so ill go through that again and try a bit of engine oil, i still have some left here.

we really didnt do much of a rebuild, never took off more then the carbs as i really dont have tools to start taking off the topcase. ill look for air leaks and see whats up with it and letcha know when i get a chacnce

i really need my own garage

  • @jhardy66617 Ah ok, obvious stuff out of the way then, it's going to have to be too much air or too much fuel - something has to be making it burn hotter.

Fuel: as you said, check the throttle cable. Also, if you've had it apart and it smells like burning, could it be something that is slowly burning off inside the cylinder? (not sure how much of a rebuild you did)

Air: I had to put a thin layer of engine oil on the gaskets of my carbs to get an air tight seal, before that it was over 10k rpm.
