Artist Profile:
Born in Birmingham city, Yelitza began to write at the tender age of 11, following her new found love for English and the written word. She followed her father to poetry groups listening and learning from some talented writers. She did not get into music until the impressionable teens. A typical teenager, she followed her then rapper boyfriend, to a rehearsal where another artist was desperately trying to find a replacement backing singer. Yelitza volunteered and so began a working relationship with this rapper / producer. Slowly her poems took the shape and form of song. Many of her album songs were written by Yelitza. The working relationship with her first producer ended a few years later when she found herself as a director for a record label, with lots of potential but very little direction. Through this label she met another producer who began to work on her album at the time entitled Blue Skies. Together they produced several tracks. The album embraces many sounds. As an artist and general lover of all music, the infusion of screaming rock guitars and undertones of dancehall reggae, merely reflect the multi-layered artist whose Jamaican heritage and British birthplace obviously lead to a mixture of their sound.
