Chapter 4
The dressing room was completely dark. Suddenly, a small light appeared. Zora switched off her lazar and glanced around cautiously. She felt wonderfully invisible in her black jumpsuit. Psssst! Can we come down now? Grady whispered loudly from the air vent above. Yep. The coast is clear! she whispered back. Grady eased out of the vent and fell with a muffled clunk. Nico followed him, much more gracefully. Wheres Tawni? Nico asked, brushing off his tux. Shes bringing Sonny in, remember? Grady nudged him a little too hard. Nico accidently bumped into the standing lamp. It teetered, before crashing to the ground. Everyone cringed and froze. To their relief, all was quiet. Zora pushed the boys into action. We have exactly two minutes and 17 seconds to set up!
Sonny glanced sideways at Tawni. She was talking so quickly Sonny could hardly follow. They were rounding the corner to the dressing room. Tawni turned to Sonny and stopped her. Arent we going to go in? Sonny asked, confused. Wait. Theres something we all here at So Random do for our most beloved members, Tawni said mysteriously. Aww, said Sonny, giggling, Im a beloved member? Tawni shrugged. Close enough. Brace yourself!And she opened the door.
SURPRISE! Everyone yelled. It took Sonny a moment to take it all in. There were balloons everywhere, and Sonnys favorite song was playing. Everything was decorated so heavily it was hard to recognize the dressing room. Zora, Nico, and Grady all came forward to greet Sonny. Wow! You did all this? For me? Tawni gave her a big hug. You havent seen the best of it! At that moment, there was a knock on the door. Sonny ran to answer it. It was Chad. He was leaning in the doorway in his usual lethargic fashion. He had a rose between his teeth and a box of Chocolates. He thrust them toward Sonny. Hey Sonny, he grinned at her. Sonny stared. Well, arent you going to let me in? Uh, yeah, sure. Come on in, Sonny said distractedly. She glanced around at the room. There was a snack table and presents were piled up underneath. Thanks for coming, she said, not wanting to met Chads eyes. No problem, he replied, helping himself to a cheese square. If it makes you stay, Im happy. The words hit Sonny hard. Suddenly, she had a sickening feeling inside. Wait, why are you all doing this? She switched of the music. Everyone looked away, not wanting to be the one to give an explanation. Tawni? Tawni threw up her hands. Yes, its a staying party. We dont want you go, and we thought if we threw a party youd change your mind. Sonny sighed heavily and sat down on the couch. The rest joined her.
Look guys, it was really sweet to throw a party and drag Chad into it, but Im still going. Chad sat down next to her. We want you to stay. Isnt there anything thatll change your mind? Sonny shook her head sadly. Im afraid not. Chad looked down for a moment. Not even this? And he kissed her.

The party was over, and Sonny was gone. Everyone was glaring angrily at Chad. Why did you have to do that? asked Zora shrilly. I thought it would help, Chad muttered. Were trying to get her to stay, not be scared away by you, Tawni put in, obviously annoyed. Ok, look guys. You may just want her to stay for the shows sake, but I have different reasons. If it werent for those reasons, I wouldnt have agreed to take part in your stupid plan. Grady gasped. Our plan was not stupid! It was, a little, Nico whispered to him. Chad stood up. I love Sonny, and in a different way than you guys do, but even I cant force her to stay. And I think its clear that youre going to have to live with her decision. And with that, he got up and walked out the door.
