My name is Mike, I am 35 years old. This is my first MMA fight after training with Team Quest in Temecula ca for 9 months. In that time I also lost 100 lbs dropping from 300 lbs to 200 lbs (still got about 30 more to go). 300 lbs is immensley fat for a guy my size (5'8") I have been morbidly obese my whole adult life and I have also joined many gyms before but I never had the motivation to get any lasting results. Last March I was laid off from my job and forced to take a long hard look at myself. After much soul searching I realized that if I did not get my self in shape then there was a good chance I would die prematurely of a heart attack and consequently not be around to help raise my beautiful little boy into a man. It was this stark reality that finally made me hit rock bottom and provided me with a true catalyst for change within. So I took a good chunk of my severance pay and laid down an entire years dues for a gym membership at Team Quest. I knew that it was a considerable amount of money to spend for a guy who just lost his job, but I considered it an investment in my health and obviously it was one that could not be measured in terms of money.

Team Quest offers Ultimate Fitness, Cardio bag, Kickboxing, MMA and Jiu Jitsu classes. Over the last 10 months I have taken them all to some degree, but It was the Ultimate Fitness classes that really pushed me to my physical and mental limits. The instructors running the class were so relentless that for the first month I thought I would drop dead of a heart attack every day. However, I toughed it out and made it through each class and slowly I gained a little more stamina each day. Then, after that 1st grueling month, I realized that I had already lost 25 lbs!! The next month I was down a total of 45, then a few months later it was 60lbs then 80 lbs and now 100 lbs in just under 10 months!

Once I got down to around 220 lbs I decided to join the Quest amateur team and start training to fight. I have no illusions that I am going to be some pro fighter some day. My desire to test myself in the ring is only a natural extension of the mental fortitude that I have gained while being pushed to the limit on a daily basis by the awesome instructors at Team Quest. For this reason I am forever indebted to those guys. Sometimes life's gifts don't come in nicely wrapped packages =)

  • i thought back of the head was illegal

  • Its the angle. It looks like I might be hitting him on the back of the head but i was really carefull to avoid it actually.

  • this is the funniest shit ever!! you guys need to learn stand up..its all about boxing..MMA will never hold up..just like tim sylvia vs a ray mercer he got his ass handed to him..good luck MMA DUDES

  • Yeah I kow it must look pretty silly to a trained boxer. I love boxing and have studied it for over a year now. Never purported to be any good though...just love to train thats all. This was my first fight and I really wish we had done more stand up actually. He just seemed too afraid of getting hit so he spent the whole fight trying to tackle me.

  • Well done Mate. I'm 43 yrs old and I'm trainin for my 1st MMA fight...lol. I luv it.

  • That is awesome to hear man. Go get em. Randy Couture did not even start MMA till he was 34....let me know how your fight goes. One thing I can say is that age and the experience that comes with it help to calm the mind. I used to get so riled up before a wrestling match that I would psych myself out before I even stepped on thye mat. Before this fight I actually slept until about 5 min to go. It helped too, because I was not the least bit nervous and I could tell that this kid was very nervous.
