Coming September 4th to theatres is Amreeka, a movie that proves that the American spirit doesn't come with citizenship papers--it comes from the hearts of the people who live there.

A family of immigrants, along with a couple of first-generation American teenagers, finds themselves inexorably caught between their heritage and their new home. Can they unite to make themselves a whole American family, or will the various influences on their lives pull them apart? Check out the trailer.

It's already won the Critic's Prize at Cannes, so it looks like Amreeka's going to add yet another title in the hunt for little golden statues. Does it have a chance? Hit the comments section below and tell us what you think. Thanks for watching!

Amreeka Cast: Nisreen Faour, Melkar Muallem, Hiam Abbass, Alia Shawkat, Jenna Kawar

  • @msartintarm Get MY facts straight? Excuse me, but Palestinians ARE recognized as a nationality of people by the United Nations. Arab is an ethnicity, not a nationality. There's a very distinct difference between the two.

If it makes you happy to falsely believe "there's no such thing as a Palestinian," go ahead. I honestly don't care, because Palestinians are NEVER going to forget where they are from.Talk all you want, but your ignorance makes me laugh. :D

  • If you ever get the chance to see this film, do so. This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Uplifting, humorous, poignant....challenge, courage, determination. You'll find it all in this delightful film about a Palestinian mother and her son who settle in the US with their family in rural Illinois. The ending will lift your spirits higher than Moses on Mount Sinai. **** (4 stars)
