Mikhail Baryshnikov guests on Bob Hope's historic special from Peking and Shanghai, China in July, 1979. In this clip, he dances with Hope, teaches at the Peking Ballet School and dances on stage with Chinese ballerina Zhong Run Liang. The three-hour special took a month to shoot -- three weeks in Peking and a week in Shanghai.

You can read all about what happened backstage while shooting these classic Bob Hope video clips by reading Bob Mills' book "THE LAUGH MAKERS: A Behind-the-Scenes Tribute to Bob Hope's Incredible Gag Writers." Says "laugh-In's" Gary Owens:
"The Laugh Makers is the book we've all been waiting for. It's jam-packed with stories, anecdotes and un-retouched photos from a fondly remembered past, recalling often hilarious, sometimes heartwarming, and always touching tales of legendary stars, near-legendary stars and one or two complete failures — which happens in show business. You can look it up in your Funk & Wagnalls."

Misha really wowed the Chinese dancers. It's a shame the 3-hour Hope special aired only once. veryone should get a chance to see it. Thanks for the comment. I'll subscribe to your channel!

Glad you like the footage which has been sitting on a shelf all these years because Bob Hope didn't like to re-run his shows. This was historic and I think more people should see it. Thanks for forwarding it on to your ballet-loving friends!
