3 teaspoons of iron oxide with 1 of aluminium. To ignite pour glycerine/glycerol onto the top of a little mound of potassium permanganate with a small well in the middle. I used a little aluminium in with the potassium permanganate to get the reaction a bit hotter to more reliably ignite the thermite

  • Wats in da bottle

  • Glycerine from Tesco. You will find it in the baking section.

  • is it possible to light thermite with a sparkler?

  • I would have thought so but never tried.

  • so where do the batteries come into all of this?...

  • They are in the thermite. Just felt like sticking them in there for the sake of it as I had them handy when weighing the ingredients.

If I remember right you can hear one pop when the thermite goes off.

  • Not even close to actual thermite. Failure.

  • so basically an awesome thermite bomb right?

  • @AgentToast2 a sparkler is thermite

  • FIRE! press 7.

  • How did you?!

  • @alandrumo I was able to get thermite to ignite with a california-safe sparkler . My thermite was home made all the way and was likely more difficult to start then thermite made from better milled and more pure materials.

  • if you live in the uk and need glycerol, or even KMnO4 then boots sell them both, the chemists boots that is. marketed under the medicines isle

  • how is this from batteries?

  • @AgentToast2 yer i do it heaps
