  • Hey I just got my hedgehog today.

    Like an hour ago..

How come for you he isnt getting all stiff and making hissing noises and sticking his quills in all directions, if you just got him?

Please help Im miserably afraid of mine :[

  • he is only doin that because he is new and really scared, u want to leave him alone for a few days, then start holding him for like 30 mins a day and he will get used to u. put an old shirt in the cage that you have worn for that day, and he will cuddle in it and he will get used to ur smell alot faster.

  • do they only use their spikes for defense..or do they bite as well?...very cute!...are they legal in america...i know they are over here in scotland...im thinking of getting one..

  • im sure they will bite if its nessicary, but their main defence is to roll up into a tight ball with their spikes sticking out in every direction. they are legal in america, thats y i have one.....

  • what do u let teh porcupine eat?

  • did u really just call him a porcupine? it says in the title AND the description that he is a hedgehog, they are completely different animals, but my hedgehog eats hedgehog food, just like a cat eats cat food, it comes in a clear bag and its called "Pretty Pets Hedgehog Food" it looks like little pieces of cereal, and he eats mealworms or crickets as treats

  • you have the best pets. except the roaches...-shudders-

  • I do not know why my post above says they DO detach quills, all wrong there.

    Anyways

Yes porcupines are the ones that detach their quills.

    BUT

You are wrong, hedgehogs, DO have quills. Not thick fur.

If you cut a QUILL you will see it is no stiff hair.

    They are hollow.

  • They aren't actually quills they're just stiff thick fur. And you're thinking of porcupines.

  • hes a hedghog by the way

  • hehe its a cute little fuzball hehe:-)

  • ZOMG! I want one <3

  • the quills arent hard enough to stab most things

  • ur great oncle told u that? he looks smart...

    SARCASM

  • But they do detach their quills and leave them stuck into whatever they poked

  • Thanks ity worked :]

Im carrying him now but it took a while to get him up.

Hes still a bit scared though.

He shoots his quills up if I move a bit too much or touch him too fast.
