Concord, NH: Open Carry Incident #6; Public Meeting #4

Was detained again for a public meeting. I meant to turn the camera on when I was talking and off when the officer was talking but forgot at the beginning. Notables missing:

Officer asking if I was the same person stopped on some street in front of Magarettas. Don't recall it, but he was the same officer with Officer Pearl who stopped me a few weeks ago on, uhhh, in front of the Indian restaurant.

He asked if my camera was off, and I told him I turned it off when he was speaking and on when I was speaking, which prompted me get told that "I'd be arrested if I recorded a single word of his."

He asked for my name and I said no.

I asked a number of times if I was free to go and didn't receive an answer beyond a shrug which could have been taken either way. Next time I'll work more towards, "Is that a yes or a no?"

I should see about designing a T-shirt that says, "I'm not doing anything unlawful by open carrying my pistol. Please don't call 911 on me and waste their and my time."

I may try to OC an empty holster at some point to see if I get detained.

Here is another thing to be concerned about….

There are a few states that want to make it ILLEGAL to video and audio cops doing their job. That needs to be stopped. To stop that every one that use a video need to write and ask both state and fed to write law that will allow the recording of cops. Next every time you see one of these so called people representatives ask then in front of a crowd why there is not a law that allows people to video them.

@samten10a In New Hampshire this term (2011), we're likely to revamp the wiretapping laws to a one party consent system. It failed last year because they just tried to amend the current poorly written one. This year, they are going to delete and restart.

@ixVENGEFULxi A previous time that I knew they were looking from me, I evaded them (sat down on a bench for 20 minutes near a river). A lawyer I know told me I should not do that.as they could use that as a reason to detain me... so when I think they may be looking for me, I do my best to ensure they can find me. Generally though I walk a circle around the town and never return to somewhere that I had previously walked.

Why did you have to omit the cop's responses? Do you have to get permission to record them or something? Is it illegal somehow? Or were you just trying to make him more comfortable?

The officer did not give me permission or rescinded permission. It's never been to court and that conversation wasn't worth taking it to court so I transcripted the officers side.

Bottom line is no, he's not "fishing", please think before making uninformed and unintelligent comments.

And he's not treating the officer like his best friend because the officer is not there to be his friend, the officer is there to arrest him for something - something that the open-carrier might say that can be used against him in a court of law, sound familiar?

They are not there to help you, in fact many times the complete opposite.

It depends what state you are living in how outraged the citizens were over J Edgar Hoover wire tapping. Some require all parties to conversation agree to the audio tapping others only one person need to agree to it . it should be changed so you can audio & video tape a cop in public as long as you are not causing a problem
