SRL put on an unannounced performance Sunday May 20 at the Maker Faire in San Mateo. After an incendiary robot set a giant cardboard-and-paper egg on fire, the wind whipped it into a fierce blaze and threw hot ash and acrid smoke into the bleachers. After ten or so minutes of mayhem, the event staff cleared the bleachers, SRL put out the flames, and shortly thereafter the fire department arrived. Video by Leila Hornick.

  • @Blacksmith1964 I don't understand what you find "sad" about creating awesome giant robots that destroy each other and light things on fire. I think perhaps you mean awesome. Because it is.

  • @Blacksmith1964 shut up butsuck

  • I blame Maker Faire for pussing out. SRL are still very much around--it's the world that got small…

  • SRL was so cutting edge at one time, maybe it still is. Radiate influences of despair and defeat wherever you go. I used to have a videotape of one of their shows in which an incendiary robot attacked a representation of the last supper and sprayed flames all over the disciples et al. I knew then that I was watching something different.

  • Quote from crowd, "Yeah, seriously." Damn.

  • Bummer about the melted asphalt. Who could've known?

  • it was awsome to be there! especially in the flames

  • Are these guys still around? It was kind of cool in the '80's but now it's just sad.
