It was the music of WW2, in this case the backdrop was the Battle for Guadalcanal which began in August of 1942, the same time frame that Kay Kyser's band rode supreme on the airwaves with "Jingle Jangle Jingle". The song itself was composed by Frank Loesser, and the Kyser band had earlier that year popularized another Loesser tune, "Praise The Lord And Pass The Ammunition". Kay was a North Carolinian by birth, a graduate of and senior class President at UNC-Chapel Hill, and later the frontman for one of America's most popular big bands. His nickname was the "Ol' Perfessor" and his radio show was entitled "Kay Kyser's Kollege of Musical Knowledge". The cast consisted of his band members including Harry Babbit, Ish Kabibble, Ginny Simms, Mike Douglas (later a popular tv talk show host), Trudy Irwin, and "Georgeous" Georgia Caroll who would become his wife.

Although it was before my time, I love the big band sound. It reminds me of the old movies I used to watch on "Million Dollar Movie" when I was a kid. Thanks for sharing.
