i would like to know this as well, though its been 11 months since you asked this, so im not to optimistic about getting an answer.....i have an awesome dragon head sculpted and i wanna add a body, but the extra meshes i add look very low poly and crappy :(

press ctrl+A to select all...
and after press ctrl+I for inverse the mask...
