My school sent a note home to parents instructing us not to watch it. I remember my teachers being so frightened that we were going to watch it. They were all on edge. Well, of course, that made us all do exactly that. And I just thought: Not as cool as "V". They should have been more worried about V.

This movie is actually a metaphor about two dogs having a farting contest.

The tension between the US and the Soviet Union was real and nobody knew better than we how nasty things could get in a short period of time. Even as we watched the film over the ship's closed circuit television system, Soviet military units were intent on locating and targeting our Battle Group. Our job, our daily routine, was part of the story, which emphasised the point that we were responsible for keeping the peace and to not allow events to escalate as we all feared could happen

The following quote is from a naval aviator deployed aboard the USS Ranger (CV-61) when he first saw this film:
------------------------------ ---------------------
The military characters seen in the film were not actors -- they were contemporaries of ours, some even familiar faces -- so we felt a true connection to the story.

It was no fun to learn in school that if the bombs came, hide under your desk. So if you have no idea or can recall how it was like to leave with this threat 24/7 for decades, I suggest you dont speak up.

I for one remember growing up during the cold war where everybody was afraid of WW III.

I saw this movie when it came out and was astounded, shocked and I'm normally not religious at all, but for the first time in my life I really prayed to god for not letting this apocalypse happen cause a few mens own fear and despair.

They should've got Sam Peckinpah or Brian DePalma to direct it!

Threads was still "quite" underestimating it? How's that? It looked pretty darn apocalyptic to me.
