"VALLEY OF DHAMMA"
Video is the part of the Islands of Dhamma made by VRI. Islands of Dhamma shows different Vipassana learning centres across the world.
Dhamma Thali, meaning 'Place of Dhamma', situated about ten kilometers from Jaipur, is the second largest Vipassana centre in India after Dhamma Giri. The centre was established in 1977. Jaipur, a major tourist centre, is part of the famous Golden Triangle along with Delhi and
Agra. The vehicular road to the centre passes though the Sisodia Rani Garden, a serpentine road through the peaceful forestland.
Dhamma Thali is surrounded by hills on all sides covered by deciduous trees. Except for a tiny village about three kilometers away, there is no habitation close to the centre, which makes it an ideal abode for serious meditation.
Dhamma Thali has two large Dhamma Halls, with a capacity to seat 125 and 350 students respectively, and two mid-sized Halls. This makes it possible to run long courses parallel to 10-day courses, 3 day-courses and Satipatthana courses.
Dhamma Thali has a three-storied octogonal pagoda comprising 201 cells, 122 for male and 79 for female participants. The pagoda is a graceful blend of Burmese and Rajasthani architecture. The porches on the ground and third storey give a unique shape to this attractive
structure.
The centre can provide single-room with attached bathrooms for 121 male and 79 female students. In case of need, 50 rooms can accommodate two students on twin sharing basis and so 300 students can be accommodated in total.
Annnually, an average of seven long courses, three Satipatthana courses, two Special 10-days, 17 10- days, two-teenagers' courses, three 3-day and two children courses are held. The centre also has a branch of Vipassana Research Institute where volunteers are doing pariyatti work separately.
