A new occlusion feature which lets the mapper set a max rendering distance per model. Works for brush based entities too. Please notice the EPOLY count (which is zero when models aren't being rendered).

    I remember a HL2 map back in the day that had large open areas, but things didn't appear until you were right next to them. I don't know if was my settings (old PC at the time) or the map, or both.

    Serious Sam uses the same method in order to hide props that were far from player's position. Actually, I extracted the idea from there.

    HL2 uses that as well, when you have a low-end machine.
