Mechanized Assault & Exploration

M.A.X. was a strategy game developed and published by Interplay Productions in 1997. It featured a level of complexity not seen in today's strategy games. Your mission was to colonize and defend a new world. You had to gather raw materials to manufacture units and structures, fuel to get units and power generators to function, and gold to purchase upgrades. Even though it was a turn-based game, you also got the possibility to play in real-time. In short, M.A.X. required intensive strategic planning to succeed.

Best strategy game ever!!

Just the fact that is turn-based already makes it brilliant, you have to really think to play.

I am playing in Windows XP with sound and everything else, working 100%. I am using VDMSound (DOSBox-like program). Later I post a link teaching how to setup it on XP.

This game was my first fav strategy game on pc. I've really liked its complexity and the possibilities of it in multi. I've loved to make fun of other players, and destroy them in several ways... :D

Why haven't they done a remade version of this game they did that with the Fallout game series (actually it was called by another name prior that did poorly) is there a possibility of this being done despite the license and other issues of it being an old game? Just a question for you how do you make a game such as this without computer programming knowledge I've always wanted to make my own game any advice you can give me?

Does anybody know whether it is possible to download the ambient soundtrack from M.A.X. 2 from somewhere? I used to love it when I was a kid, the way it really set the mood for the game...

What a underrated game!!!! This is no doubt best strategy game I ever seen. (no. 2 Sid's civilzation II :) I love it.

I am an absolute idiot when it comes to command prompts... I installed DosBox 0.74, now I wish to play M.A.X. from my C:\ drive.... but giving the mere command C C:\MAX or C C:\INTRPLAY\MAX\MAXRUN.EXE doesn't work... it says "Illegal command" . What should be the exact line instead? Thank you a ton !
