Hong Kong's old Kai Tak airport offered spectacular opportunities for plane watching. Approaching aircraft were required to make a sharp turn before skirting the tops of buildings and landing on a narrow runway in the harbor. These landing shots were taken just before Kai Tak was closed in July 1998.

  • those are the days gone by. i remember that waw the year i returned to hk for the first time after leaving her for more than 10 years. i was there in the airport to watch and memorize almost the very last day of the operation. i miss the kai tak airport alot. luckily i flew back to hk and landed there. that's my last time in kai tak. so long kai tak.

The airport stop service at midnight~~

  • @dookiekong007 Probably adjusted to the noise over time :) Sometimes I think I'd love to live somewhere like that but when I think about it, day after day the novelty probably would wear off!

  • I also landed a few times at Kai Tak airport in Hongkong in the late 80's and early 90's - it was always fun as you could look out of one side of the plane and see people eating in an apartment and see the same thing looking out the other side - the airport was also conveniently close to downtown. Now long gone. I also took off a few times too - also exciting - one time an Air China plane took off almost vertically in a thunder storm (you have to clear the mountains across the harbour).

  • @planesvideo wow...

  • awesome

  • @dookiekong007

    in bed?

  • @dookiekong007 Planes will not be allowed to land or take off after 12 am

  • This video sure brings memories.. i've landed at Kai Tak twice when i was a teen, and the feeling was SPECTACULAR! and the place where we stayed was also (more or less) close to the point where the planes would make that bank, which provided an AWESOME view! man.. too bad i didn't record any of them. the airport is no longer there.. sad, it had so much character but it'll live on forever in our hearts!
