  • In my reply to identifying Jim Alex as the 3rd person in the Sullivan Show dance number of "Carnival in Flanders", I am his son, John Alex. Jim Alex who is still with us, was originally discovered by Gwen Verdon, is mentioned in Jack Cole's book, "Unsung Genius." My father was very close to Jack Cole and I had the honor of meeting him some years ago.

  • Great story, John. I will share this with our members who would know of your father. Especially our Jack Cole fanatics like Harvey Evans and Alan Johnson!

  • The 3rd person on the left is Jim Alex who also was also one of Jack Cole's favorite students. The 3 of them were performing the original Broadway musical, "Carnival in Flanders" at this time when they did this Sullivan Show presentation of the musical. Jim Alex also danced in other original Broadway musicals such as, "Guys & Dolls, The Boyfriend and West Side Story."

  • Thanks for the heads up. We were honored to have George Martin at our Cole event.. To see him sitting there WATCHING that video knowing he was the one on the RIGHT.. was mind-boggling. So you're John Alex, telling us about Jim ALEX... any relation?

  • Does any one have any fun and inside information? With whom did jack Cole study ballet?

His ballet is so good ... oh my.

    Thank you.

  • Jim Alex had an amazing life...we celebrated his life today January 8, 2011 at the Veteran's Cemetery in Riverside, California. No matter where Jim went or what he did, he loved his faith and his culture. The Orthodox prayers were read after his military funeral and as a fellow Greek, I pray that His Memory Be Eternal.

  • These men are wonderful. Who would you ever get to dance like this now? If you went to the boys at ABT, they would be able to do the steps, but they would not have the right attack or style.

  • Thanks for sharing that story with your members. My father would be delighted to be in contact with those who knew him.

  • Fosse choreographed part of White Christmas for Robert Alton. I thought that happened all the time in film, tv, and video. I know a lot of choreographers who don't even get the credit.

  • I am not AB, he's my friend though!
